María Cortizas is a partner and director of Dentons' tax practice in Spain.

Prior to joining Dentons, she was a senior associate at Linklaters for 12 years and previously held a senior position in the Transactions department at KPMG Lawyers.

María has more than 20 years of experience advising clients on the tax structuring of mergers and acquisitions operations, capital market operations, financing of structures and debt restructuring.

She specializes on the structuring and tax planning aspects of large operations, including corporate reorganizations, cross-border tax planning, IPOs and acquisitions by venture capital entities, infrastructure funds and real estate funds. She also represents clients in litigation and tax appeals before the Spanish courts, including the Supreme Court.

María has also been a professor in the Master of Tax Legal Profession at the Autonomous University, Universidad Carlos III and professor of taxation at the University of Villanueva.
