Stan Freeman’s law practice is dedicated to counseling colleges and universities from all sectors of higher education, allied educational companies, investors in higher education, and accrediting agencies on administrative, transactional, accreditation, legislative, and litigation matters. For decades, Stan has regularly advised educational institutions on regulatory compliance matters involving the U.S. Department of Education, including strategic issues pertaining to participation in the federal student financial assistance programs, and on accreditation, licensure, rulemaking, and related regulatory concerns.
Stan also assists colleges and universities concerning compliance and enforcement matters arising under the Higher Education Act of 1965, including program reviews, audits, substantive changes, changes in ownership and control, college mergers and acquisitions, financial responsibility, student loan concerns, privacy issues, state authorization, and program integrity and oversight matters.
Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland and for decades, Stan has represented numerous colleges and universities before the U.S. Department of Education and before other federal agencies, state educational oversight agencies, and accreditors on compliance matters, financial responsibility concerns, legislative issues, and investigative matters. He has also litigated cases in the state and federal courts and has handled legislative matters involving amendments to the Higher Education Act.
