Chambers DEI and Pro Bono research and awards

Chambers’ DEI research identifies progress, highlights best practice and brings greater clarity to inclusion across the legal sector. We work with organisations across the legal sector to identify meaningful progress, recognise leadership and share effective approaches.

The Chambers DEI Awards and research process does four things:

  • Builds an evidence‑based picture of DEI activity across each market
  • Identifies areas of progress, challenge and best practice
  • Supports a community of organisations committed to making the legal sector more inclusive
  • Recognises the organisations and individuals driving meaningful change in the legal sector

DEI Awards submission process

The DEI Awards application form combines tick‑box and free‑text questions:

  • Tick‑box questions establish a baseline of DEI activity across the legal sector (for example, the proportion of organisations offering vacation schemes/mini‑pupillages targeted at specific underrepresented groups).
  • Free text questions allow you to share specific examples of your initiatives and outcomes, highlighting effective approaches and best practice.

Regions

Our current research focuses on Latin America, Brazil and the UK Bar and Solicitors markets. We use these insights to produce content and engage with the wider DEI community in each market. Currently, DEI Awards are restricted to Europe and APAC.

Awards

Our DEI awards recognise the organisations and individuals doing the most impactful work to make the sector more inclusive. We use the information gathered through this process to build awards shortlists, unless your organisation opts out. Awards are assessed using information provided in the free text sections of the submission form and are judged on the following criteria:

  • Impact – Is the impact of this activity significant and is it demonstrated through data, references, etc.
  • Originality – Are the ideas and methodologies behind activities unique
  • Breadth – How broad does the impact of these activities go? Are they firmwide, regional, national, international?

We will ask your organisation to name individuals who are doing significant work in the DEI or pro bono space. Nominees may come from within or outside of your organisation. The nominations will be used to determine the winners of the individual categories. The references provided in this section are very important and play a key role in determining the winner.
