A former federal prosecutor and chair of the firm’s Compliance & Government Investigations Practice Group, Lisa Rivera advises healthcare providers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical device companies, government contractors, and other regulated entities on civil and criminal fraud and abuse matters, government investigations, and enforcement actions. Her practice focuses on matters arising under the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, and other federal and state healthcare statutes and regulations.
Lisa counsels clients on internal investigations, compliance matters, government inquiries, and fraud and abuse risk assessments. She has significant experience handling healthcare and government contract investigations involving hospitals, physician groups, laboratories, pharmacies, durable medical equipment suppliers, long-term care facilities, and Department of Defense contractors.
Career
Joined Bass, Berry & Sims in 2014. Previously served for 14 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Department of Justice in the Middle District of Tennessee and Puerto Rico, where she prosecuted white collar financial crimes and handled civil enforcement actions. She also served as Civil and Criminal Healthcare Fraud Coordinator in the Middle District of Tennessee. Prior to her federal service, Lisa worked with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, served as a state prosecutor in Florida, and practiced commercial litigation in Texas.
