Practice Areas
Partner and US Practice Group Leader of the Intellectual Property Group, Kevin King focuses on domestic and international patent prosecution and IP counseling for chemical, mechanical, electromechanical, and biomedical technologies.
Also the chair of the firm’s US Medical Devices practice team, Kevin has deep experience in intellectual property issues in the biomedical industry, particular combination drug and device products, and diagnostic devices. He also counsels clients in manufacturing and consumer products industries with intellectual property issues, including patents, licensing, due diligence, and clearance opinions. Kevin has worked closely with start-up companies to help them in the critical early development stages to build an IP position attractive to partners, investors, and acquirers. He also works with a number of renowned research universities and global companies to help them with patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling related to manufacturing systems, pharmaceuticals, diagnostic testing systems, implantable drug delivery systems, microneedles, and automotive lighting systems.
Kevin leveraged his substantive understanding of intellectual property issues to guide two medical technology companies from their inception through to their ultimate acquisitions, helping each company guide a patent strategy and build a portfolio of more than 150 domestic and foreign patents and applications to protect each client’s pioneering technologies. The first company developed a new generation of microfabricated devices for drug delivery and biosensing, and the second company developed a new drug delivery platform for treating urological diseases.
