Juanita Pérez Botero is a Partner in Pérez-Llorca’s Intellectual Property & Competition practice. She advises Colombian and international clients on the full spectrum of IP rights, including trademarks, patents, copyright, franchising, and entertainment law. With more than two decades of experience, she has achieved wide recognition for her skilled management of complex industrial property portfolios across Latin America, combining strategic brand protection with regional coordination for global companies.
Career
Juanita began her professional career in 2005 as a legal advisor in Colombia’s Ministry of National Education, later serving as senior advisor at the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce. She joined the firm in 2011 and was promoted to partner in 2020. She is ranked in Chambers Latin America 2025 for Intellectual Property and is recognised as a Leading Partner by The Legal 500 2025. She has also been recommended by IP Stars, IAM Patent 1000, and Leaders League across multiple IP categories, including litigation, trademark prosecution, patent prosecution, regulatory law for pharma and health, and media and entertainment.
Personal
Juanita is a member of INTA, ASIPI, ACPI, and the International Bar Association (IBA). She holds a law degree and a specialisation in Competition Law and Free Trade from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, and completed Legal English studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She is fluent in Spanish and English.
Work Highlights
Juanita has significant experience in infringement proceedings, domain name disputes, and regulatory defence, as well as in developing enforcement strategies for leading multinationals. She also advises on licensing and commercial agreements, and supports corporate transactions in which IP is a central factor. Her recent mandates include leading the regional brand strategy for Prosalon (Cromantic); advising Alicorp, Almacenes Éxito, Quechua Perú, Grupo Aval, and Jafer Enterprises on IP protection; and assisting international airline brands with trademark negotiations. She works extensively across regulated and consumer-facing industries including pharmaceuticals, health tech, media, and retail.
