David Ricardo Araque Quijano is a Partner and head of the Dispute Resolution practice at Pérez-Llorca. With more than two decades of experience, he is widely recognised for his expertise in domestic and international litigation and arbitration, particularly in complex disputes arising in construction and infrastructure, industrial procurement, energy, commercial distribution, and mergers and acquisition. He also has a strong track record advising on litigation prevention and liability, and has defended multinational clients in class actions and public interest lawsuits relating to environmental, consumer protection, and personal injury matters.

Career

David began his legal career in 2003, joining Pérez-Llorca in 2012 and becoming a partner in 2018. Over the course of his practice, he has consolidated his reputation as one of Colombia’s leading disputes lawyers, with high-level experience across arbitration centres including ICC, ICDR, and CCB. He is ranked in Chambers Latin America 2025 for Dispute Resolution, has been recognised as a Leading Partner by The Legal 500 2025 for Litigation, and is recommended by Leaders League 2025 in Restructuring and Insolvency.

Personal

David is a professor at Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, where he teaches courses in Roman Law, Business Law, Obligations, and Procedural Law, and regularly lectures on dispute resolution in M&A transactions. He is a member of the Colombian Arbitration Committee and the International Bar Association (IBA). He holds a law degree and a specialisation in Financial Law from Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá; a degree in Industrial Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá; and an LL.M. in International and Comparative Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London.

Work Highlights

David has acted as counsel in domestic and international arbitrations involving EPC and FIDIC contracts for wind farms, aqueduct systems, and infrastructure concessions. He has represented clients in shareholder and M&A-related disputes, hydrocarbon sector arbitrations, and commercial litigation concerning distribution and agency agreements. His experience also includes defending Fortune 500 companies in class actions in Colombia and providing expert advice on Colombian law in cross-border disputes.
