Career
With a focus on the financial industry, Juan Luis has spearheaded legal teams in more than 50 international offerings of debt instruments, hybrids and securitisations launched by major Peruvian banks, companies and holdings for a total of approximately US$35 billion. Juan Luis has also participated in asset and company acquisition financing structures in Peru and other Pacific Alliance countries. Moreover, he has advised foreign financial entities in obtaining licences to operate banks, investment and mutual fund management companies, and brokerage houses. He regularly counsels domestic and foreign banks on banking regulation, financial transactions, capital markets, derivatives, and mergers and acquisitions in the banking and financial industry, as well as on structuring investment funds and designing fintech companies. Juan Luis became a partner at Miranda & Amado in 2003 and was managing partner between 2010 and 2017. Between 2018 and 2023, he was the executive secretary of Affinitas, a network of four leading law firms from each of the Pacific Alliance countries. He has taught several courses on Banking Law, Securities Market, Corporate Finance and Ethics at the Law Schools of Pontificia Universidad Católica, University of Lima, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas – UPC (2001) and in a diploma course at Universidad del Pacífico. Before joining Miranda & Amado, he worked as an international lawyer at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle in New York, as a legal manager at BankBoston Peru and as an advisor to the offices of the Minister of Economy and Finance and of the President of Indecopi, the Peruvian Competition and Intellectual Property Agency.
