George Cannon Jr

Chip Cannon is an energy regulatory partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Chip takes a holistic view of the U.S. power sector and advises clients from regulatory, market design, policy and commercial perspectives. He regularly provides clients with strategic advice on all issues arising under the Federal Power Act (FPA), the Public Utility Holding Company Act of 2005 (PUHCA) and the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA). Because his career progressed parallel to the evolution of competition in the U.S. power sector, Chip has extensive experience in the nuances of the various regional market structures, as well as in utility tariffs (both wholesale and retail). He regularly focuses on grid access and power supply to large industrial end users, including data centers and AI.

With a clientele of independent power producers, large-scale energy consumers, public power entities and other regulated electric utilities, he has established himself as a trusted advisor in the U.S. power sector.
