Ms Zhou Yarui is a partner at Tahota Law Firm and a lead arbitration counsel known for her sharp strategic judgment and commercially grounded advocacy in high-stakes international disputes.
Clients describe her as pragmatic and assertive, while peers and opposing counsel regard her as a formidable advocate — one who is both respected and feared in adversarial proceedings. She is widely recognised for her ability to rapidly distil complex factual and legal issues into clear, decisive arbitration strategies, combining rigorous legal analysis with a strong understanding of clients’ commercial objectives.
As one of a very small number of PRC-based arbitration practitioners qualified across the PRC, Hong Kong and England and Wales, Ms Zhou offers a rare blend of civil law and common law expertise that directly informs her strategic approach to complex international arbitrations.
Ms Zhou regularly acts for Chinese and international clients in international arbitrations administered by HKIAC, SIAC, ICC and CIETAC, with a focus on disputes arising from overseas investments, international projects and complex commercial transactions. She is frequently instructed in matters where strategic clarity, sound judgment and robust advocacy are critical to the resolution of the dispute. In addition to her role as counsel, she has provided expert input in arbitration-related matters before foreign courts, where her expert views have been accepted and relied upon.
Ms Zhou holds an MJur from the University of Oxford and an LL.B. from the China University of Political Science and Law. Her work has been recognised by independent legal research institutions, including Benchmark Litigation China and LEGALBAND, which have consistently identified her as a leading next-generation practitioner in international arbitration and investment-related disputes.
