Jim has been practicing intellectual property litigation for 43 years, both as an outside lawyer in international law firms and as general counsel for an international Class III medical device company. He is Board Certified in Intellectual Property by the Florida Bar and was the inaugural chair of Florida’s IP Board Certification Program. He has appeared in over 400 federal cases in over 48 different district and circuit courts. He has handled well over 400 injunctions in state and federal courts in over 35 different states in, inter alia, patent, trade secret, restrictive covenant, and employee unfair competition “raiding” cases. In addition to securing multi-million dollar verdicts and defense verdicts in “bet the company” litigation, Jim obtained a $2.3 billion judgment against a company that misappropriated his client’s trade secret technology. He has served as an adjunct professor of trade secret and restrictive covenant law at the University of Miami School of Law and the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce School of Law, and as an adjunct professor of patent and trade secret law at Florida International School of Law. Jim is also a member of the Sedona Conference Working Group 12 on Trade Secret law.
