Emily Geier is a partner in the Restructuring Group in Kirkland’s New York office. Emily advises companies, distressed investors, private equity firms and funds on capital structure, liquidity and other strategic solutions across industries, including liability management transactions, cross-border protocols, out-of-court exchanges and restructurings, and bankruptcy proceedings. Emily has advised clients in some of the largest and most complex restructurings in recent years. Representative matters include Energy Future Holdings, Toys “R” Us, Nordic Aviation Capital, Bed Bath & Beyond, Express, Aearo Technologies, C&J Energy, Maxcom Telecommunications, Sungard AS, Jason Industries, Southcross Holdings and Pier 1 Imports. Emily also advises boards of directors and senior management on fiduciary duties and corporate governance.
Emily was selected by the American Bankruptcy Institute for its 2024 list of “40 under 40 - Emerging Leaders in Insolvency Practice.” Emily was named one of Law360’s five “Rising Stars” in Bankruptcy for 2024 and was recognized by Turnarounds and Workouts as a 2023 “Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer.”
Emily serves as a part-time lecturer at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania teaching the course “Corporate Restructuring.”
