Gordon McBean

Head of Thorntons Personal Injury team, Gordon assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) in June 2021. Working closely with Managing Partner, Lesley Larg and the firm’s Directors, Gordon plays a vital role in the firm’s financial and operational performance.

Thorntons has grown considerably in recent years and working with the management team, Gordon ensures that growth and change are managed effectively to allow the firm and colleagues to continue to deliver optimum client service and working practices in support of the firm’s strategy and growth ambitions.

As well as being the firm's Chief Operating Officer, Gordon has specialised in personal injury law for over 25 years and led Thorntons team to be a top tier Personal Injury firm in Scotland.

He is very well connected in the Personal Injury market and has a particular interest in working with victims of acquired brain injuries and their families. He has investigated several complex fatal accident cases including a fatal legionnaire’s disease case and was a steering group member involved in direct discussions with the insurers of the owners and operators of a Super Puma helicopter which crashed into the North Sea with the loss of 14 lives. A leader and innovator in his field, Gordon created the first widely available After The Event insurance product for litigation in Scotland thereby greatly increasing public access to justice.
