Santiago Oñate Yañez

Arbitration and Civil & Commercial Litigation

Santiago is an associate of the Arbitration and Civil & Commercial Litigation practices.

He represents clients in international arbitrations involving national, transnational companies and state-owned entities, in an array of industries (construction, public works contracts, energy, among others), under ICC, ICDR, and LCIA, rules, as well as investment arbitrations under ICSID rules.

Santiago also has significant experience as a litigator in civil and commercial procedures before local and federal courts, interim measures in aid of arbitration, and enforcement and annulment of arbitral awards. He is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with extensive experience managing complex proceedings in both languages. His linguistic proficiency ensures seamless communication and effective advocacy across diverse legal environments.

Prior to joining the Firm, he worked as a law clerk for Justice José Ramón Cossío of the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice. At Yale Law School, Santiago was Submissions Editor and Member of the Editorial Board of the Yale Journal of International Law. He has been an Associate Professor of International Adjudication at Universidad Iberoamericana and has been a guest lecturer on International Arbitration at several universities in Latin America.

Santiago holds an LL.M. from Yale Law School and an LL.B. from Universidad Iberoamericana. He has specialized studies in Public International Law from The Hague Academy of International Law. He is currently the Administrative Secretary of the Mexican Mediation Institute Presidency.
