Edgar Martin Padilla

Since the beginning of his career, Édgar has focused his practice on competition and antitrust law. After serving as a Counsel at Galicia for one year, he became a Partner in 2026 and now leads matters across the Competition/Antitrust and Compliance practices.

He enjoys combining legal and economic analysis to make transactions happen. Édgar is an expert in competition law and is widely recognized for his detailed understanding of the business models of the companies he advises and the impact of regulation on them.

Édgar has focused his practice on merger control and has been involved in some of the most complex cases reviewed by the Mexican Competition Commission in recent years.

He has a particular interest in digital markets and has advised on landmark transactions and proceedings in this area. Clients also commend his strong data analysis skills and his remarkable experience in energy-sector proceedings before the competition authorities.

Édgar holds an M.Sc. in Development Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an LL.M. in Economic Analysis of Law from the University of Salamanca and a postgraduate degree in Statistical Methods from Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas (CIMAT). Previously, he graduated with distinction from the Law School of the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes in 2011.

He worked as a foreign associate in the Brussels office of Freshfields in 2023.

Teaching is one of Édgar’s greatest passions. He has taught competition law and regulation at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he has also supervised innovative dissertations in the field. He has published articles in leading competition law journals, including the Journal of European Competition Law & Practice, Concurrences, Competition Policy International and The Antitrust Source.
