Mauricio is a partner at ECIJA Costa Rica and specialises in providing legal advice to companies with operations in Central America and the Caribbean. His training as a Legal Project Manager (LPM) and his management, coordination and execution skills have allowed him to successfully lead teams for the execution of legal projects in a wide range of fields.
Career
With more than 15 years of experience in Dispute Resolution: Litigation and Arbitration, he has participated as counsel in national and international arbitration proceedings, enforcement proceedings, recognition and annulment of arbitral awards in different Latin American jurisdictions. He is frequently appointed as arbitrator in commercial and real estate disputes.
Mauricio also has extensive experience in the Technology sector, with particular expertise in Digital Economy and Data Protection and Privacy.
He teaches International Commercial Contracts, Private International Law and Arbitration at the University of Costa Rica and other local universities.
Master's Degree in Business Legal Consultancy from the Carlos III University of Madrid, Master's Degree in the General Regulation of Personal Data Protection from the UNED (Spain) and the Spanish Agency for the Protection of Personal Data.
Postgraduate in International Commercial Arbitration and Legal Project Management at IE Law School (Madrid) and Law Degree from the University of Costa Rica.
He is a Member of the ICC Latin American Arbitration Group, the Spanish Arbitration Club, the Ibero-American Data Protection Observatory, the EuroPrivacy Expert Group, the Latin American Privacy Association (ALAP) and the ICC-YAF (Representative for Latin America 2015-2017).
