Joris is a Legal Director in Corporate Insurance team based in the London office. Joris qualified in Australia and worked at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers in Australia prior to joining Clyde & Co in London.

Joris advises insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries and others on regulatory, commercial and corporate matters, with a practical and commercial approach. He has a wide variety of experience in assisting clients with commercial agreements (including distribution arrangements and reinsurance), regulatory advice including the UK authorisation framework and insurance distribution regulations, and corporate transactions and governance. He has also advised Lloyd’s market participants on Lloyd’s regulations and various agreements.

Since joining Clyde & Co, Joris undertook a secondment at Zurich, gaining valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of an insurer.

Joris is a member of the British Insurance Law Association.

• Advising clients on the UK regulatory framework in respect of insurance, including authorisation requirements, conduct regulation and prudential regulation (including Solvency II and IDD requirements);

• Drafting and negotiating distribution agreements between insurers and intermediaries / managing general agents;

• Reviewing policy wordings and advising on compliance with UK statutory and regulatory requirements;

• Drafting and reviewing Terms of Business Agreements, Introducer Agreements, etc.;

• Acting for a client on the acquisition of an insurance intermediary;

• Acting for a client on the sale of a Lloyd’s reinsurance business;

• Advising clients in respect of reinsurance agreements;

• Assisting Lloyd’s market participants on the transfer of a Syndicate to a new managing agent;

• Reviewing policy wordings and advising on compliance with UK statutory and regulatory requirements; and

• Advising clients on general corporate matters.
