O'Brien represents and counsels employers on a variety of labor matters including: collective bargaining, unfair labor practice proceedings, labor representation cases and elections and more. He represents management in matters of grievances, injunction proceedings, arbitrations and wrongful discharge. He provides mediation and has counseled clients on union relationships as well. Other areas of expertise include: wrongful discharge, breach of contract, discrimination claims and jury trials.
He secured a verdict in favor of a major insurance company in Connecticut's first federal court case involving a claim of sexual orientation discrimination. Also, on behalf of New York hospital he obtained multimillion dollar contract concessions from a registered nurses' union.
