Willem Bongaerts is a Dutch tax partner and a member of the Transaction team. He is specialist in M&A transactions, corporate finance and business restructurings. Specific knowledge lies with pan-European (IP) tax structuring and assistance with tax and legal solutions with a particular focus on innovative companies. He is also a member of Bird & Bird's Life Sciences Group and Tech & Comms Group.
Willem heads Bird & Bird's Dutch Tax Practice, and is co-chair of Bird & Bird’s International Tax Group. Willem worked as an international tax lawyer in the Netherlands, Luxembourg and New York and joined Bird & Bird in 2014. He holds master’s degrees in Notarial Civil Law from Leiden University and in Tax Law from the University of Amsterdam.
Willem is a member of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers, the International Fiscal Association, the Dutch Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Willem is frequently asked to speak at tax specialist conferences, e.g. at the International Bar Association, Finix conferences, Corporate Tax Summit, the American Bar Association, Thought Leader Global and IP focused seminars (e.g. IP Summit).
