Career
Santiago Fontana is the Head of the Corporate and M&A practice at FERRERE. He focuses on foreign investment, mergers and acquisitions and general commercial and corporate matters.
Santiago has participated in numerous high profile foreign investment projects, as well as mergers and acquisitions (both local and cross-border). Some of the deals Santiago has recently participated in, includes:
- Sale of the majority of Marfrig’s plants in Uruguay to Minerva
- Sale of the largest meatpacking plant in Uruguay owned by Japanese Nipponham to Minerva
- Acquisition of Totalnet by Minsait Payments (Indra)
- Acquisition of the two largest insulated panels producers in Uruguay by Kingspan
- Acquisition of SW producer Genexus by Globant
- Acquisition of videogames company Ironhide by Tencent
- Acquisition of two cold storage companies by Emergent Cold
Santiago also collaborates with a large number of corporations on their strategic and corporate matters in Uruguay, among which he advices Edenred, COSAN, UPM, Kingspan, Emergent Cold, Marfrig, PUMA, Indra and LHG Mining.
Santiago is a member of the Closely Held Committee at the International Bar Association, Vice-Chair of Next Generation Committee at the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and Uruguayan representative at Global Leaders Forum.
Santiago is also a professor at the University of Montevideo (under-graduate – M&A).
