Christian Olea leads FERRERE’s Tax Practice in Bolivia, advising local and international companies on a broad range of domestic and international tax matters. His practice focuses particularly on international tax, investment structuring, tax planning and the development of strategies aimed at optimizing clients’ tax and financial positions.
He has extensive experience advising clients on the tax implications of business restructuring processes, including mergers, spin-offs and other corporate reorganizations, ensuring the appropriate design and implementation of tax strategies throughout the transaction.
Christian also represents taxpayers in administrative proceedings before tax and customs authorities and in tax disputes before the Tax Appeals Authority (Autoridad de Impugnación Tributaria – AIT) and the courts. His experience includes the development of defense strategies in tax audits, assessments, appeals and other contentious tax matters.
His practice further encompasses transfer pricing and the application and interpretation of double taxation agreements, as well as the tax implications of cross-border transactions and international investment structures.
Christian is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and serves as Director of the Bolivia Branch. He is also Vice President of the Tax Commission of ICC Bolivia and a member of the Instituto Boliviano de Estudios Tributarios (IBET).
He previously served as Bolivia's National Tax Rapporteur for the International Bar Association (IBA).
He has authored scientific articles in books on tax law for publishers such as Linde (Austria) and Aranzandi (Spain).
Christian has taught postgraduate courses in domestic and international tax law at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, Universidad Privada de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Universidad Católica Boliviana and Universidad Privada del Valle, as well as at the Chamber of Industry, Commerce, Tourism and Services of Santa Cruz (CAINCO).
He has also participated as a speaker and panelist in national and international forums addressing domestic and international tax matters.
