Career

Diego Tamayo is a Senior Associate in FERRERE’s Corporate team in Bolivia, where he advises local and multinational companies on corporate, commercial and regulatory matters, with particular experience in M&A. His practice also encompasses emerging regulatory matters relating to ESG, sustainability and carbon markets.

His practice focuses on advising local and multinational companies on complex corporate and commercial matters, including M&A transactions, corporate reorganizations, legal due diligence, corporate governance and the negotiation and structuring of sophisticated commercial agreements. He advises clients across multiple industries and manages a significant portfolio of corporate and transactional matters. He also acts as in-house counsel for one of FERRERE’s largest global clients, coordinating its corporate, regulatory and commercial legal affairs in Bolivia and serving as a key interface between the client’s local operations, regional legal teams and external counsel.

He has developed particular expertise in the emerging carbon market in Bolivia, advising on the evolving legal and regulatory framework governing carbon credits, climate finance and carbon projects. His work includes regulatory analysis, comparative legal research and assessment of institutional and legal challenges affecting the development of voluntary carbon markets in Bolivia.

He has also developed a distinctive practice at the intersection of corporate law, ESG and international human rights standards, advising companies on diversity, equity and inclusion, responsible business practices and corporate governance. His work in this area has been recognized by Chambers and Partners, which named him “Diversity and Inclusion: Future Leader” at the 2023 Chambers Latin America Awards, an individual distinction awarded annually to one lawyer across Latin America.

Since 2022, he has led FERRERE’s pro bono practice in Bolivia, advising non-profit organizations, foundations and other civil society organizations on legal and governance matters. He also coordinates the firm’s social impact initiatives in Bolivia through FERRERE Transforma, leading projects focused on inclusion, sustainability and responsible business.

Personal

He has been invited as a speaker at leading national and international forums on carbon markets and climate finance, where he has addressed the legal framework, regulatory developments and investment challenges associated with the sector.

He also serves as a Director of Juventud Empresa for the 2025–2027 term, a national business organization focused on entrepreneurship, private enterprise and the development of young business leaders. In this capacity, he participates in initiatives aimed at strengthening Bolivia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and has contributed to legislative and editorial projects addressing the business environment.

He taught Sociology of Law at Universidad Privada Boliviana (UPB) from 2022 to 2023, combining his legal practice with academic teaching and university-level education.
