Robert J. Kennedy is a partner and the national Co-leader of the Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy group. Based in Toronto, he advises on insolvency and corporate restructuring matters under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Business Corporations Act.

Robert has extensive experience in corporate restructurings, receiverships and bankruptcy proceedings, creditor rights and enforcement, and out of court restructurings and work-outs. Known for his strategic approach, he has represented debtors, lenders, Court-appointed monitors and receivers, trustees, DIP lenders and purchasers of distressed assets in complex financing proceedings.

Robert has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Alberta Court of King's Bench and Alberta Court of Appeal, advocating for clients in high-stakes insolvency and restructuring matters.

In addition to maintaining a solid practice, Robert, as an Indigenous lawyer, is also committed to advancing education and representation with Indigenous communities. He dedicates his time to board and committee work focused on enhancing access to education and supporting Indigenous learners, aligning his professional leadership with a strong sense of social responsibility.
