Richard Moody joined Clyde & Co in 2014 to accelerate the construction practice, and alongside a growing team in London he focusses his practice on defending claims against major contractors and global consultants, engineers in particular. He also has a leading insurance coverage practice. Richard has advised on claims arising out of every conceivable type of structure and has fought and won dozens of major trials with an impeccable record. He is well known as an expert strategist and tough negotiator. He has clients and contacts throughout the London Market and with many of the world’s leading insurers and brokers, helping forge strong collaborative relationships between them and their insureds.

Experience

• 2020 successfully resolved large claim vs global engineers concerning alleged fire safety and daylight issues at a new hospital.

• 2020 successfully defended steel fabricators at TCC trial concerning alleged design defects in a tram shed Blackpool Borough Council v Volkerfitz Patrick Ltd & Ors [2020] EWHC 1523 (TCC) (15 June 2020) (bailii.org)

• 2020 successfully obtained a permanent anti-suit injunction concerning coverage proceedings issued in the US relating to underlying $1.5bn action Catlin Syndicate Ltd v AMEC Foster Wheeler USA Corp [2020] EWHC 2530 (Comm) (24 September 2020) (bailii.org)

• 2021 successful defence of London Market Insurers in coverage arbitration relating to AUD 20m indemnity claim by specialist contractor concerning a failed sheet-pile wall

• 2021 Acting jointly for a main contractor and insurers recovered from the supply chain 95% of £5m loss on fire-safety remedial works to student accommodation

• 2021/22 acting for various Tier 1 contractors on Nickel Sulphide inclusion glass failures.

• 2021/22 acting in the Commercial Court for Tier 1 contractor concerning water damage to a 2 acre cassette roof and related coverage - £100m plus

• 2021/22 advising on £50m claim concerning a settling retail distribution centre

• 2021/22 advising on £75m costs of repairing sprinkler corrosion

• 2021/22 advising on failed £100m energy from waste project

• 2021/22 advising on multiple fire-safety related claims (residential, hospital, commercial) both defence and coverage

• 2021/22 live project advice on completion of 450,000 sq ft mixed use development.
