A partner in Skadden’s Financial Institutions group, Michael Reed has more than two decades of experience advising the nation’s leading banks. He has handled hundreds of M&A and capital markets transactions for financial institutions. Mr. Reed also counsels executive management and boards of directors of financial institutions on strategic, regulatory and risk management matters. In addition to traditional banking institutions, he regularly advises financial technology companies, specialty finance companies, mortgage banking companies, financial sponsor investors and asset management firms on a wide range of public and private transactional, regulatory, compliance, corporate finance and disclosure issues.
Prior to Skadden, Mr. Reed was a senior executive at a publicly traded financial institution, leading both the risk management and corporate development divisions, and a team of approximately 200 staff. This experience uniquely positions Mr. Reed to advise C-suite executives regarding the myriad issues that they regularly encounter, including with respect to strategic growth, M&A, capital, enterprise risk management, fintech partnerships and interactions with regulators.
Mr. Reed frequently lectures and authors articles on a variety of topics, including mergers and acquisitions, fiduciary duties, disclosure matters, corporate governance and securities laws.
