Matthew Weaver

Matt, partner in Reed Smith’s Insurance Recovery Group, is a commercial litigator and represents corporate, municipal, and individual policyholders in disputes regarding insurance coverage, unfair insurance practices, and insurer bad faith.

He has extensive experience seeking recovery for policyholders under all types of policies, including commercial general liability, directors and officers liability, professional liability, commercial and residential property, and commercial crime.

Matt is also represents health-care providers in tort and contact disputes with health insurers stemming from claims underpayment and harmful business practices. He also prosecutes insurer bad faith cases on behalf of policyholders, including those seeking punitive damages for an insurer’s wrongful general business practices in both state and federal court.

He is the recipient of several awards for advocacy, including the Best Brief Award at the Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition, and was selected as a member of the Order of Barristers.
