Paul Pitts

Paul is a partner in Reed Smith’s Life Sciences Health Industry Group and managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office. He advises health care providers and life science companies on regulatory matters and business transactions. This may include providing clients with guidance on fraud and abuse laws, payment and coverage rules, privacy and security laws, and participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs.

He has worked with a wide range of health care providers and life science companies, and has particularly deep industry experience in radiology, radiation oncology, digital health and telemedicine and long-term care. He advises health care providers and life sciences companies on business and regulatory considerations in transactions and contractual arrangements.

His experience lies in negotiating and drafting agreements between health care providers, forming joint ventures, and advising start-ups. He has represented buyers and sellers in major acquisitions in the life sciences and health care industry, focusing on due diligence, change of ownership issues, regulatory approvals and related regulatory issues.

Paul has conducted internal investigations on behalf of health care providers alleged to have submitted false claims to federal health care programs. He has represented hospitals and imaging centers in disclosing and refunding Medicare overpayments and in defending federal false claims investigations.
