Daniel Ahn leverages his extensive background as a former supervisory federal prosecutor and DOJ trial attorney to guide clients through corporate crises, achieving a remarkable record of client successes since joining Reed Smith. As a partner in the firm’s Regulatory and Investigations practice group, he leads sensitive internal and government investigations and provides proactive compliance counseling. An accomplished trial lawyer and appellate strategist, Daniel also represents clients in complex litigation, both civil and criminal. His practice encompasses a wide range of matters, including domestic and foreign corruption, sanctions and export controls, consumer protection, environmental offenses, and civil rights, as well as securities fraud, health care fraud, money laundering, and other forms of financial fraud.
Prior to joining Reed Smith, Daniel spent a decade at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, where he served as senior litigation counsel, acting chief, and deputy chief in the Criminal Division. He focused on investigating and prosecuting complex fraud, RICO, and corruption cases, and led some of the office’s most high-profile white-collar matters. Daniel also managed significant cross-border cases in coordination with the State Department and authorities in Asia and provided training for South Korean prosecutors and judges. Earlier in his career, Daniel served as a trial attorney in DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.
Throughout his long-running tenure as a federal prosecutor and DOJ trial attorney, Daniel developed strong relationships with officials at the DOJ, U.S. attorney’s offices, and various federal and state agencies, including the FBI, DHS, HHS, DOL, ED, IRS, SEC, FINRA, and OFAC. His deep experience enables him to offer clients valuable insights when navigating government enforcement actions, whether commenced via grand jury subpoenas, HIPAA subpoenas, civil investigative demands, or search warrants.
