Matthew is a partner in Dentons property team, with particular expertise in the Public Works Act and property law for government entities.
With nearly 20 year’s’ experience in property law, Matthew advises on a range of matters including strategic advice on both acquisition and disposal issues, advising on disputed compensation, managing the acquisition process including compulsory acquisition, and negotiating and documenting transactions.
Matthew also advises on property management and disposal issues, including the various government disposal processes and statutory obligations. He has a strong understanding of how the Resource Management Act and planning matters interact with property issues.
Matthew is often asked to provide legal opinions on complex or disputed issues, drawing on his breadth of technical knowledge and experience. He has a strong understanding of the public law and wider political issues associated with Crown ownership and statutory processes. Matthew is a trusted advisor who consistently provides timely, considered advice, which is both technically accurate and pragmatic.
He also advises overseas clients on the acquisition of land in New Zealand and obtaining consent under the Overseas Investment Act.
