Career

Martin is a Partner Equivalent in the Hill Dickinson Marine/Shipping Team in London, having joined in May 2023, and divides his time between Greece and the UK. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and had previously been at Clyde & Co. He set up the Clyde & Co Greek office in March 1998 and headed up their Greek office for 16 years before returning to the UK as Head of Marine Casualty in the spring of 2014.

His advice goes beyond collision and salvage to pollution liabilities, general average, transhipment and selling of distressed cargoes, wreck removal, P&I and cargo claims as well as insurance issues.

Martin acts for shipowners, P&I Clubs, property insurers and leading salvors and has lectured and written many articles on salvage and general average, and spoken at many events. He has presented on many recent Court cases, such as the Supreme Court decisions on "RENOS" and "LONGCHAMP", and has lead the debate on whether the salvage industry is in terminal decline, including presenting a draft of a more commercial version of LOF – "LOF Light".

He is a CEDR Accredited Mediator and founder of the Eastern Mediterranean Mediation Association (EMMA). He is also the secretary for the Admiralty Solicitor's Group (ASG) and been involved in revising the ASG standard forms.
