Career

Manuel Lecuona is one of Uruguay's leading advisers on Company Law, Mergers and Acquisitions and Shareholder disputes. He has also played a determining role in the energy, renewables and infrastructure industry in Uruguay, leading the development of a range of renewable energy and infrastructure projects. He has been ranked in Corporate/M&A in Uruguay for ten consecutive years. He leads the firm's Company, Corporate Law and New Ventures practice and is a core member of the Energy and Infrastructure team.

For more than two decades Manuel has advised local and multinational companies with interests in Uruguay. His work has earned more than thirty mentions in Latin Lawyer and other leading international publications for his role in complex transactions, among them the acquisition by the Canadian pension fund CDPQ of the Italian group Terna's assets, including 100% of Difebal, which consolidated CDPQ's entry into the Latin American power transmission market, and the purchase by a multinational firm of the Uruguayan paper producer Fanapel. He advised Dufry on the acquisition of free shops at Uruguayan airports in the context of a US$ 957 million regional transaction. He led the team advising IDB Invest on its ESG-linked investment and capital financing to the Uruguayan retailer Ta-Ta.

He recently advised on the acquisition of a leading bank and on a series of venture capital transactions. He is a regular adviser to clients in the port and logistics sector.

In the corporate conflicts area, he has resolved numerous disputes among shareholders and between shareholders and boards, with a consistently high success rate.

He advises the German turbine manufacturer Enercon and the German renewable energy developer ENERTRAG on a continuing basis. In conventional energy, Manuel is long-standing counsel to Petrobras, YPF and other key players in the oil and gas sector.
