Work Highlights
• Western Power: The firm is representing the Barotse Royal Establishment, which is the traditional authority in the western part of Zambia in a transaction involving the development of a 170MW hydro power project. The project is designed to produce power that will feed into the national grid within a framework of a power purchase agreement with the state. It is premised on a joint venture.
• Titan Drilling : The firm was instructed to defend a class action wherein employees sued the client for unpaid salary arrears and other allowances. This matter involved provisions of the employment code and the new High Court rules that have not been sufficiently litigated upon.
• Standard Chartered Bank: The firm represented the Bank in the High Court of Zambia, where it had been sued by its former employees for claiming for inter alia, redundancy recalculations to include and deductions made by the bank on the auto loan facility at the time of the redundancy, recalculation of redundancy package in line with the Group Redundancy Standard.
• Tony Blair Institute – The firm assisted the client with respect to the acquisition of business visas and temporal employment permits for its expatriate employees.
• Confidential Client (Access Bank): Advised the bank on redundancy process.
• Kansanshi Mining Plc: Advising the client in an employment dispute by its former employees claiming underpayment and unfair dismissal.
• Starkey: The firm advised on the NGO company status and corporate restructuring advice on ownership in a registered trust.
• Tony Blair Institute: The firm assisted in the registration of a foreign company, review of an employment contract and rendering legal opinion by guarantee at the Patents and Companies Registry Agency (PACRA) and Non- Governmental Organization at the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.
