Joey counsels employers and represents them in employment-related litigation, arbitrations, and mediations in Texas and in other states.
Joey guides clients on diverse employment matters, like hiring practices, leave laws, wage-and-hour laws, accommodations and layoffs. He crafts and reviews employment documents, partners with HR to conduct trainings and implement policies effectively and counsels on the labor and employment aspects of corporate transactions.
As counsel to employers, Joey litigates employment claims and advises clients on sensitive employment issues. He represents employers in litigation and administrative actions alleging discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge and other federal and state law violations. Joey also conducts workplace investigations for into such claims.
Joey also has experience defending employers against FLSA collective actions and state law wage and hour class actions. Joey represents clients in cases where independent contractors have challenged their classification and claimed employee status, e.g., under the FLSA. Joey also advises clients in drafting independent contractor agreements.
Additionally, Joey represents employers on both sides of the docket in non-compete and trade secret misappropriation matters.
