John Kelsh is co-chair of Sidley’s global Corporate Governance practice. He has decades of experience advising publicly traded corporations on all aspects of corporate governance, securities law, and public company regulation. He has worked with hundreds of clients across a wide range of industries and company sizes.
Since 2022, John has also served as general counsel of firm client Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. (TDS), a NYSE-listed company with subsidiaries operating in various telecommunications businesses. In that role, John led the firm’s representation of TDS in the numerous governance and transactional aspects of the $4.4 billion sale by TDS subsidiary United States Cellular Corporation of its wireless operations and select spectrum assets to T-Mobile US, Inc.
John has taught Securities Regulation at both Northwestern University and the University of Chicago. Prior to joining the firm in 1998, John served as a law clerk to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist.
