David R. Carpenter

DAVID CARPENTER is the head of Sidley’s West Coast Appellate practice and co-leads Sidley’s Regulatory Litigation group. A member of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers, David has handled dozens of appeals and writs in federal and state appellate courts, including briefing cases in the United States Supreme Court and arguing matters in California Supreme Court, California Court of Appeal, and multiple Federal Circuit Courts. David also frequently acts as embedded appellate counsel at trial, working with trial counsel to prepare key motions, trial briefs, and jury instructions, and to craft strategy and preserve issues for appeal. David’s practice spans substantive areas of law, including class actions, products liability cases, antitrust matters, tax disputes, and complex commercial disputes. David also has extensive experience representing clients across industries in litigation challenging federal and state executive and agency actions, as well as local government regulatory actions.
