Century City partner Matthew Thompson is the co-founder of the Century City office and leader of Sidley’s Media and Entertainment group firm wide. He represents entertainment companies and sources of capital in complex M&A and financing transactions, as well as general corporate matters and a wide variety of industry-focused transactions. Recent representative matters include: WMG and UMG in several nine-figure acquisitions and other strategic transactions; Shamrock in several high-profile participation acquisitions; Dwayne Johnson and partner Dany Garcia in the acquisition of the XFL and potential merger with the CFL, a JV with Jägermeister to launch tequila brand Teremana globally, and a JV with Molson/Juggernaut to launch energy drink brand Zoa globally; Connor Schell (former CCO of ESPN) in a JV with Chernin Entertainment and a multi-year output deal with Disney/ESPN; Neon (best-picture winner Parasite) in a JV with Bleecker to launch global digital-distributor Decal; and Craig Piligian in a multi-year agreement elevating him to President of Lionsgate non-fiction and chairman of Pilgrim (following his prior sale of a controlling interest to Lionsgate).
