MATTHEW THOMPSON is a partner in Sidley’s Century City office and the founder and co-leader of the Entertainment, Sports and Media group firmwide. He represents entertainment companies and sources of capital in complex M&A, joint venture and financing transactions, as well as general corporate matters. He also represents entertainment companies and other similar parties in a wide variety of industry-focused commercial transactions.

He is nationally and internationally recognized as a leading corporate entertainment lawyer and is regularly involved in the biggest deals in the sector. His client list is a who’s who of power players, and his deals make headlines throughout the industry and beyond. His accolades are too numerous to list but amongst others he has been recognized by the California Daily Journal as one of the top 100 lawyers in California, by the Los Angeles Business Journal as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Los Angeles, and appears perennially on the Variety 500 list recognizing the 500 most powerful people in entertainment globally and The Hollywood Reporter’s “Top 100 Lawyers” list.

Matt is co-chair emeritus and a continuing member of the UCLA Entertainment Symposium Advisory Committee, is a member of Advisory Board of the Ziffren Institute at UCLA for Media, Entertainment, Technology and Sports Law, and is a member of the USC-BHBA Entertainment Institute Advisory Board. He holds a number of leadership positions at Sidley where he co-founded the firm’s Century City office.
