Horacio Payá

Profile

Horacio joined Nicholson y Cano in December 2004, where he leads the Environmental Law Department. With extensive experience, he advises clients from various sectors, including the energy sector, as well as major international exploration and production (E&P) companies.

The Environmental Law Department of the firm specializes in providing preventive advice, assistance with environmental permits and administrative resources, and environmental litigation. Additionally, Horacio advises companies on the environmental aspects related to the sale of shares and real estate, and conducts legal compliance audits for industrial plants, both for maintenance and for ISO 14,001 certification, among other matters.

He has an extensive academic background, having been the Director of the Master’s in Environmental Policy, Law, and Management at Universidad Austral since 2019.

Education

Horacio is a lawyer graduated with honors from the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina “Santa María de los Buenos Aires” (1989).

He obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Environmental Law from Pace University, White Plains, New York, in 1993.

In 2001, he completed the Executive Development Program at IAE Business School, Universidad Austral. He received the “El Derecho” Editorial Award in 1989 and was a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship, granted by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the U.S. Information Agency in 1992.
