Geraldine Ifrán has over 30 years of experience at the firm and is a partner at FERRERE’s Corporate & Commercial practice group and member of the Mergers and Acquisitions practice.

She has broad experience with corporate clients, large-scale deals involving the public sector and government corporations, joint ventures, commercial agreements, and merger and acquisition transactions.

She represents a predominantly multinational clientele ranging from the US, Europe to Latin America, including, among others, Ahold Delhaize, Avolta (Dufry), Bimbo, GlobalLogic (Hitachi), IBM, James Fisher Fendercare, Mapfre, Marsh McLennan, MetLife, MSC, Logicalis, Navios, Nufarm, SBI, SURA and Zurich.

Moreover, she is the undisputed market leader in insurance, with 25 years heading up the firm’s insurance and reinsurance practice.

Author of two books on regulation, Curso de Derecho de Seguros (Insurance Law Course, 2006) and El Seguro de Vida (Life Insurance, 2008), coordinator and co-author of La Ley de Seguros en Uruguay (The Insurance Law in Uruguay, 2024), co-author of La Regulación y Supervisión de los Seguros en Colombia e Iberolatinoamérica (Insurance Regulation and Supervision in Colombia and Ibero-Latin America, 2026).

She is also the author of several papers and articles on insurance and reinsurance and regularly participates as a panelist on insurance and reinsurance issues at local and international conferences.

Some of the deals Geraldine has recently participated in, includes:

- USD 440 million acquisition of Telefónica Uruguay by Millicom.

- Acquisition of SACEEM, Uruguay’s leading construction company, by French group NGE.

- Acquisition of leading frozen bakery group Pagnifique by Bimbo.

- Acquisition of the leading local retail and pharmacy chains owned by Argentine group GDN by Paraguayan group Vierci.

- Acquisition of the Uruguayan insurance subsidiary of German group HDI/Talanx by Barbuss Group.

- Advising Navios Group, a major global shipping company with operations in Uruguay, on the issuance of USD 400 million of bonds in the Norwegian market.

- Acquisition of a stake in local fintech company Handy by Itaú.
