Daniel Lim brings over 20 years of experience in civil litigation, government investigations, and complex discovery matters, advising clients on sophisticated eDiscovery issues, subpoena responses, cross-border investigations, antitrust matters, and grand jury investigations. Dan provides guidance on the strategy, law, technology, and best practices relating to the discovery, management, and production of electronically stored information.

Dan regularly advises on complex, multinational discovery and data management issues arising in cross-border disputes and investigations, including matters involving data privacy considerations, government enforcement actions, and regulatory inquiries.

Before joining Sidley, Dan served as Chief of the E-Discovery Office at the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division. As supervising attorney of the office, Dan led a team of attorneys providing guidance on the eDiscovery process in civil litigation, criminal proceedings, investigations, and other high-stakes matters. He led the development of best practices when using analytics and artificial intelligence technologies in affirmative and defensive cases. During his tenure at the DOJ, Dan developed the Civil Division’s eDiscovery training curriculum and drafted best practices guidance addressing all phases of the discovery process.

In addition to his client work, Dan is actively involved in the eDiscovery community. He is a regular speaker, presenter and author. He also serves on The Sedona Conference Working Group 1 Steering Committee and is Co-Chair of the Publications Subcommittee, where he helps guide and oversee the development of influential publications and commentaries addressing evolving issues in e-discovery law and practice.
