Brandt Thomas Roessler is a Senior Associate in Baker Botts’s International Disputes group whose practice focuses on cross-border investigations and international arbitration. He has been involved in a wide variety of complex matters, ranging from the investigation of corruption and money laundering in South America, to an international arbitration arising out of a subsea gas pipeline rupture.
Brandt is an experienced international arbitration practitioner with a strong background in complex, cross-border disputes across the energy, technology, and construction sectors. He has represented clients in proceedings governed by leading arbitral institutional rules — including the ICC, AAA, ICDR, and UNCITRAL — in venues spanning New York, Houston, London, and the Middle East. Clients have included multinational corporations, state-linked entities, and regional businesses, reflecting an ability to navigate diverse legal and cultural contexts in high-stakes matters.
Brandt’s substantive experience spans the full lifecycle of energy and infrastructure projects, including oil and gas exploration, LNG purchase and sale agreements, offshore pipeline construction, and fuel refining facilities. He has also handled technology-related disputes involving licensing and trade secret misappropriation in the telecommunications and energy sectors. Aside from arbitrations, Brandt has assisted clients in cross-border litigation and investigations, including a defense contractor’s alleged violations of the United States Anti-Terrorism Act and a multinational bank’s potential facilitation of laundering government bribe money through South America, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
In addition to his international arbitration and investigations practice, Brandt also represents clients pro bono in LGBTQ+ civil rights cases, including challenges to discriminatory state laws and oppositions to harmful proposed regulations. The litigation of these cases has involved appeals to multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals and to the Texas Supreme Court.
As recognition of his advocacy, Brandt was named by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association as one of the “40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40” in 2024.
