Beverley is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Professional Negligence Law. She is a solicitor advocate with extended rights of audience in the Scottish civil courts. She is dual-qualified in Scotland and England & Wales. She has over 20 years' experience in dispute resolution and specialises in defending claims against a wide range of professionals in the legal, construction, insurance and financial services sectors She has experience of dealing with complex, high value, professional indemnity claims.

Beverley is a Vice Chair of the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal. Beverley is also a legal member of the Parole Board for Scotland.

Experience

• Defending a litigated solicitor’s negligence claim for £38m for alleged loss of opportunity by the client to pursue litigation against a third party.

• Defending adjudication proceedings raised against M&E engineers on alleged defective design of basement waterproofing.

• Defending surveyors against a £2m claim involving multiple allegations of over-valuation and fraudulent misrepresentation.

• Defending a consultant management accountant in a negligence claim arising out of alleged failure to detect, or put in place measures to detect, fraud perpetuated by the company’s finance controller.

• Defending a claim against consultant geotechnical engineers in respect of alleged negligent design of riverbank reinstatement works.

• Defending an IFA re a claim concerning alleged negligent pensions advice and overcharging of fees.

• Advising insurers on coverage in respect of a claim against an accountant alleged to have provided false information to a lender.

• Defending a £1m claim against a financial advice network and one of its Appointed Representatives alleged to have cancelled life and critical illness insurance without the client’s knowledge or consent. The claim was settled at mediation.

• Defending 2 separate claims against engineers who designed remedial works after a landslip. The remedial design was allegedly defective, causing a further landslip and property damage. The claim went to a tri-partite mediation.
