Amir Ghavi co-chairs the firm’s Technology Transactions group and is based in New York. His practice focuses on technology and intellectual property, with a particular focus on AI and other disruptive technologies.
Amir advises across the technology ecosystem on product development, data procurement, AI governance and strategy, regulatory and government affairs, IP and M&A matters. He currently represents AI model developers as defendants in litigations involving questions of first impression around copyright and AI. More broadly, he is an experienced advisor on corporate and asset acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings and financings; IP-centric joint ventures; data use and licensing; software development and digital transformation. His clients range from multinational corporations and high-growth technology-driven companies to technology-focused sovereign wealth funds, private equity sponsors and venture capital firms.
In addition to his transactional and IP-focused disputes practice, Amir pursues collaborations between academia, industry and the law. Most recently, these efforts have focused on novel issues arising from the broader use of AI and the social implications of its rapid adoption.
Amir serves on the board of directors of Mastodon, a nonprofit technology project dedicated to civil discourse in the global commons and open source principles. He is also a lecturer at Cornell Tech and MIT Sloan School of Management, where he offers seminars on AI and the law, and a frequent speaker, panelist and media commentator on matters involving AI, digital assets and quantum computing.
