Álvaro Mendiola

Practice Areas

Partner. Mr. Mendiola specializes in court and arbitration proceedings relating to claims arising from company sales, distribution, energy, competition law, and corporate contracts; expert in mediation. He has been involved in the restructuring proceedings of six of the most important automotive distribution networks in Spain.

For many years, he has represented several leading companies in the energy sector in settling contractual disputes, joint venture and M&A agreements and strategic assets. He was the first senior legal advisor in Spain to obtain a civil judgment awarding damages for breach of competition law. He is senior legal advisor to international and national arbitration boards and an accredited mediator.

Career

He has been lecturing in the Master for Admission to the Practice of Law, the Master in Business Law and the Master in Tax Consultancy at Universidad de Navarra in Madrid since 2017. He has lectured on European Community law in the masters in business law at Universidad de Navarra and Universidad Antonio de Nebrija in Madrid, and on procedural practice in the Master for Admission to the Practice of Law at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2013-2017).

Professional Memberships

Member of the Madrid Bar Association, of the International Bar Association, and of the Spanish Arbitration Club. In 2015, he became a CEDR accredited mediator (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) and, in 2020, he became an accredited mediator by the Ministry of Justice in Spain. He is on the panel of mediators at the Fide Mediation Center.

He has also published several articles in journals specializing in distribution (Andimac) and corporate management (Manager).
