William McRae

Focuses on the taxation of structured investments for non-US sovereign investors; corporate acquisitions; forming and structuring private equity funds, real estate funds and other investment vehicles; international tax planning for multinational corporate groups (FTC planning and repatriation strategies), restructurings and insolvencies; and equity derivatives and other financial products.

Bill’s clients include many of the world’s largest leading sovereign wealth funds and financial institutions. Bill also has been involved with several major bankruptcies, including Nortel Networks, Sears, and the Overseas Shipholding Group.

Joined firm, 1996; became partner, 2005; LLM in Taxation, New York University; JD, cum laude, Harvard Law School (1996); BA, magna cum laude, Williams College (1991).

New York Bar; New York State Bar Association, where he serves on the Tax Section Executive Committee.

Regularly publishes content on issues related to international taxation and was a principal author of a June 2008 report by the New York State Bar Association Tax Section, “Report on the Tax Exemption for Foreign Sovereigns Under Section 892 of the Internal Revenue Code.”
