Angela's IP Litigation practice places her at the forefront of the generative AI revolution. Technology companies regularly turn to Angela to handle their most high-stakes litigation matters, including copyright, DMCA, trademark, false advertising, trade secrets, defamation, and contract and licensing disputes. She is counsel to leading AI developers in putative class action lawsuits alleging copyright and trade dress claims directed to the training and output of image models and large language models. In this capacity, Angela is playing a pivotal role in the resolution of the core fair use principles on which the future of generative AI in the United States will turn. She has tried numerous cases to a jury verdict and has substantial experience in the federal appellate courts, including successful arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in high-profile, published IP cases. Angela also devotes substantial time to pro bono asylum, civil rights, and other impact litigation.
Career
Angela has 25 years’ experience as a trial and appellate lawyer to the world’s leading companies. She joined Cleary Gottlieb as a partner in 2023 from another major international law firm and has been teaching trademark law at UC Berkeley School of Law since 2022. Angela received her J.D. from the University of California, Davis and her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.
