Victoria accepts instructions in public and private law children work, including cases with international elements and those involving deprivation of liberty.
She has a particular interest in conducting fact-finding hearings and is regularly instructed in cases with complex issues, including allegations of causing a child’s death, inflicted brain injuries and multiple fractures, starvation, suffocation, child-trafficking, child sexual exploitation, and factitious or fabricated illness. She has a wealth of experience in cross-examining medical experts and other professionals and is skilled in making legal arguments.
Victoria has extensive experience of cases with allegations of sexual abuse, including inter-familial abuse. She has represented child victims and child perpetrators and children that have given evidence in proceedings. She has represented teenage and vulnerable parents who have physical and/or learning disabilities. Victoria has undertaken the Vulnerable Witness Advocacy course.
Victoria is accomplished in presenting legal arguments on disputes including children giving evidence, issues of disclosure, parental alienation, transfer of living arrangements, removal from the jurisdiction to applications for a determination of educational, religious, medical or other specific issue.
Victoria is aware of the special issues raised by complex and long-running private law litigation. She has appeared in the Court of Appeal on one such case described by Lady Justice Black as difficult and unusual.
