Thomas focuses on EU competition law, especially antitrust, merger control and state aid law. He also practices German competition law. Since 2015 he has led Freshfields’ Austrian competition law practice. Thomas has an active litigation practice – notably before the EU courts in Luxembourg, where he recently represented the German Federal Government, the ECB and Infineon. He was counsel to Post Danmark in two competition law landmark cases before the ECJ and acts in competition matters before German courts.
Recent books on competition law in the pharmaceutical sector (2015) and on state aid practice in Austria (2017).
