Practice Areas

Pete Hays is a commercial energy lawyer with a focus on M&A and projects. His clients are public and private companies, equity and debt investors, developers and entrepreneurs in energy transactions, including upstream and midstream deals and new projects in the energy transition. He primarily advises on acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, project development and complex commercial contracts.

Pete practices both domestically and internationally, onshore and offshore. He is board certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Pete has focused on the energy sector for his entire career. Before entering private practice, he clerked for Chief Judge Hayden Head of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. In law school, he served as a research clerk for Professor Ernest E. Smith, Rex G. Baker Centennial Chair in Natural Resources Law.
