María Paula Sánchez

María Paula Sánchez is a partner at Posse Herrera Ruiz. Her primary practice focuses on the customs and international trade department of the firm.

She is a lawyer from Universidad Javeriana. She holds an LL.M in International Trade and Investment Law from Maastricht University, Netherlands. Specializations in Customs Law and Tax Law from Universidad del Rosario, Bogotá, and studies at Fordham University, New York.

With over 15 years of experience in customs law, international trade, trade defense, free trade zones, and customs litigation.

She was a Founding Partner of the legal department at Comex S.A.S., legal director of the Medellín office at Araújo Ibarra & Asociados, partner in customs and international trade at Forero Medina & Abogados Asociados.

She has served as Co-Director of the Journal of the Colombian Institute of Tax Law (ICDT), former principal member of the Board of Directors of the Colombian Institute of Customs Law ICDA; professor of International Economic Law at Universidad Javeriana; professor in the Master’s in International Business (MIB) at Universidad EAFIT, and lecturer in Customs Law at Universidad Autónoma de Occidente.

María Paula currently holds prestigious academic positions, including being a professor at Maastricht University Brussels Campus (Specialization Courses in Taxes) and a Professor at Universidad del Rosario (Instruments of Trade Defense and Barriers to International Trade) in the Customs Law specialization.

She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of ICDT, co-director of the Observatory of Tax and Customs Jurisprudence of ICDT, and a member of the Working Groups on Customs Valuation, Origin, and Trade Facilitation at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
