Joanne Harrison, Legal Director, graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2008 with a degree in Law (LLB Hons). Joanne was admitted to the Roll in England and Wales in 2011, after completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Birmingham.

Joanne had a training contract with Weightmans LLP and following qualification, worked within Weightmans’ Healthcare and Regulatory teams.

Joanne was admitted to the Roll in Northern Ireland in 2019 and joined Carson McDowell’s Healthcare Regulatory Team at that time. Joanne became a Senior Associate in December 2020.

Joanne specialises in regulatory and professional discipline matters, with a particular focus on healthcare cases. Joanne’s experience includes advising and representing medical professionals who have been referred to the General Medical Council (‘GMC’) and General Dental Council (‘GDC’), as well as assisting medical professionals involved in investigations undertaken by the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (‘NIPSO’), the Police Service of Northern Ireland (‘PSNI’) and Trust investigations / disciplinary procedures. Joanne’s experience also includes assisting medical professionals involved in Judicial Review proceedings, injunction proceedings, a statutory Appeal, a public inquiry and inquests.

Joanne has been an active committee member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers ('ARDL') since 2012. Joanne was elected as Secretary of ARDL in 2020 and continues in that role.
